Handmade natural soap from Colombo, made the slow way
Saraku started with one question: why does almost every soap in Sri Lanka leave skin tight, dry and somehow oilier the next morning? The answer was on the label. They were not soap. So we went back to the ingredient this island has always trusted, pure coconut oil, and made real soap from it in small batches, with a short list of botanicals that do one job each.
Real soap, not a detergent bar
Every bar is made by saponifying pure coconut oil with an alkali and cooking it through (the hot-process method), so the finished bar contains soap and its own glycerin and nothing synthetic. Most supermarket bars are synthetic detergents that cannot legally be called soap.
Three ingredients before anything else
Our first and best-known bar is coconut oil, coffee and lemon. We add one botanical at a time only when it earns its place: carrot for dull skin, aloe vera for sensitive skin, guava leaf with neem and aththora for skin that gets fungal patches in the heat.
Made for this climate
Sri Lankan skin deals with sun, sweat and humidity every day. A cleanser that strips oil makes all three worse. Ours cleans without the tight feeling, which is why customers with oily skin are our most loyal repeat buyers.
Sold direct, answered personally
We sell only through this site and our Facebook page, deliver to every district with cash on delivery, and answer skin questions ourselves on WhatsApp. That is how we hear what works and what does not.
How a Saraku bar is made
- Pure coconut oil is measured and warmed, then combined with a precisely weighed alkali solution.
- The mixture is cooked and stirred until saponification is complete, which we check by hand and by pH, so no free alkali remains.
- Botanicals go in at the end so their properties are not cooked away: ground coffee and lemon, carrot powder, aloe vera, or the guava leaf, neem and aththora blend.
- The soap is poured, cut into 130 gram bars and dried on racks. Each batch is small enough to check every bar.
